Why Practise with a Live Teacher Online?
Meditation apps and recordings can be wonderful companions, especially when you want to practise at your own pace. But there is something different about joining a live class. You make time for yourself, connect with a teacher who guides you in the moment and share the experience with people from around the world. Sometimes, the hardest part of meditation is simply making the time to begin, and having a class to look forward to can help you develop a more regular practice, even when life feels busy.
A live session also gives you something a recording cannot: the opportunity to ask questions and receive personal guidance. Perhaps your mind becomes restless, emotions arise unexpectedly or you wonder whether you are practising correctly. These are all natural questions, and Punnu welcomes them with warmth, understanding and insights drawn from more than 35 years of personal practice and teaching. After all, meditation is not about doing everything perfectly. It is about becoming more aware of yourself, learning to observe what is happening within you and discovering moments of stillness along the way.
What Happens During the 90-Minute Zoom Class
The class begins with a warm welcome and simple instructions to help you feel comfortable and ready for the practice. Punnu explains the meditation step by step, so even if you are joining for the first time, you can follow along at your own pace. He then guides you through Active Consciousness Meditation, which combines rhythmic breathing, awareness of the seven chakras and a period of silence and deep relaxation.
Every meditation experience is different. Some people feel calm and peaceful, while others become more aware of emotions, physical sensations or thoughts that have been quietly sitting in the background. There is no particular experience you need to achieve, and nothing you need to force. Simply stay present, listen to your body and allow the practice to unfold naturally. If you would like to understand more about the technique, you can explore Punnu's Active Consciousness Meditation class.
After the meditation, there is time to ask questions, reflect on your experience or share something with the group. You are welcome to participate in the conversation, but there is never any pressure to speak. Sometimes, simply listening and enjoying the quiet after meditation is exactly what you need.
Bring the Meditation Circle into Your Home
When Punnu teaches meditation in person, participants sit together in a circle and hold hands during the practice. This simple connection creates a beautiful feeling of togetherness, reminding us that although each person's meditation is deeply personal, we can also support one another through shared presence. You can bring a little of that experience into your own home.
Invite your partner, a friend or a family member to join you. Sit together, hold hands during the breathing if you feel comfortable and enjoy sharing the experience. Each participant simply needs to book their own place.
And if you are joining alone, that is just as wonderful. Somewhere else in the world, others are taking the same time to pause, breathe and turn their attention inward. Different homes, different countries, different lives, yet for these 90 minutes, everyone comes together with the same intention: to practise meditation.
Who Is This Online Meditation Class For?
This online meditation class welcomes everyone, from complete beginners to people who have been meditating for many years. If you have always wanted to try meditation but find it difficult to sit quietly, Active Consciousness Meditation can be an accessible place to begin, because the rhythmic breathing gives your attention something to follow before moving into stillness. The class may also be a lovely addition to your routine if you work from home, travel frequently, live far from a meditation centre or simply enjoy practising with the guidance of an experienced teacher.
Perhaps you have already met Punnu at The Yoga Barn in Bali, joined one of his workshops or completed a meditation training with him. These live online sessions offer a simple way to stay connected with the practice and continue meditating together, wherever life takes you.
And if this is your very first experience with Punnu, you are equally welcome. He explains the practice clearly, encourages you to listen to your body and reminds you that meditation is not a competition or something you need to get right. You only need to bring yourself, a little curiosity and a willingness to explore.
How to Prepare for Your Online Meditation at Home
One of the beautiful things about online meditation is that you can practise in a familiar space, surrounded by the comforts of your own home. Choose a quiet room where you can enjoy the full 90 minutes without interruptions. Let the people you live with know that you are taking some time for meditation, silence your phone and close any unnecessary programmes on your computer. Before the class begins, check your internet connection, sound and camera so you can settle into the experience without distractions.
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to breathe freely, and avoid eating a heavy meal during the two hours before class, as many people find the breathing practice more comfortable on a light stomach. Keep a yoga mat, meditation cushion or chair nearby, along with a blanket, some water and a few tissues. Make sure you have enough space to sit comfortably and lie down during the relaxation.
Please join Zoom approximately 10 minutes before the class begins, so you have time to settle in and everyone can start together. If you feel comfortable, you are welcome to keep your camera on. It can create a lovely sense of connection within the group, but it is entirely your choice, and you can also participate with your camera switched off.
Most importantly, make this time your own. There is no need for a perfect meditation room or a special setup. A quiet corner, a comfortable place to sit and your presence are enough.
Please Read Before Joining the Meditation
Active Consciousness Meditation includes strong, rhythmic breathing, which may not be suitable for everyone. If you are pregnant or have a heart condition, high blood pressure, a respiratory condition, epilepsy or another seizure disorder, or a serious mental health condition, please consult your doctor before participating. If you have another medical condition that could be affected by intensive breathing, it is also important to seek medical advice beforehand.
Because you are practising at home, please pay particular attention to how your body feels. You can slow down, breathe more gently or rest whenever you need to. If you feel dizzy, uncomfortable or unwell, stop the active breathing and return to your natural breath. Seek medical assistance if symptoms are severe or do not resolve.
If you have received medical clearance but need to adapt the practice, you are welcome to let Punnu know privately before the session or through the Zoom chat. He can explain gentler options, although his guidance does not replace medical advice. You are never expected to push yourself beyond what feels comfortable, and resting quietly, breathing naturally or simply observing the meditation is always a valid way to participate.
Your Teacher, Punnu Wasu
Punnu Wasu is an Indian meditation teacher, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist with more than 35 years of experience in meditation, yoga and holistic healing. Growing up in a family deeply connected to music and spiritual practice, Punnu was introduced to meditation and devotional traditions at an early age. Over the years, his personal journey has taken him through different approaches to meditation, breathwork, yoga and self-awareness.
Today, he shares his experience through meditation classes, courses, retreats and teacher trainings around the world. Based between Bali and Switzerland, he has been guiding meditation at The Yoga Barn in Ubud for many years. What makes practising with Punnu special is his natural, down-to-earth way of teaching. His sessions combine experience and depth with warmth, simplicity and often a little humour.
He encourages you to explore meditation with curiosity rather than expectation, reminding you that there is no need to become someone different or achieve a particular state of mind. For Punnu, meditation is not another task on your daily to-do list. It is an opportunity to slow down, become more aware and reconnect with yourself, one breath at a time.
