Join devotional Kirtan Master and music teacher Punnu Singh Wasu for his 5-day heart opening and soulful Kirtan intensive training and voice activation.

This is a unique and transformational opportunity to study ancient devotional mantras and Indian Classical Music with a Kirtan master of more than 40 years of experience. This training is for both beginners (no previous musical experience is necessary) as well as for Kirtan leaders who want to refine their skills.

Experience the benefits of ancient sacred mantra repetition as applied to chanting and meditation. Enjoy the ecstasy and deep spiritual fulfilment of the ancient Bhakti Yoga practice. Learn Sanskrit and Gurbani from Sikhism (Kundalini) chants, their proper pronunciation and meanings. You will gain insight into Yoga philosophy in Bhakti, traditional Indian deities stories and practices. Learn the instruments used for Kirtan, and explore the possibilities to create your own amazing chant compositions.

Punnu Singh Wasu is an Indian vocalist, musician, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He was born and raised in Hyderabad into a family that has a true love for kirtan and spirituality. He began studying harmonium and singing at the tender age of 5. At age 10, he moved on to studying the Indian Classical Music (Hindustani) while traveling with his father throughout India singing the beautiful verses of Kirtan. Later on his knowledge of mandolin and tabla became his focal point.  Nowadays he performs Kirtan, Xtatic Kirtan, Indian Fusion, Indian Classical music, Sufi, Bollywood music as well as Sound Healing around the world. He has his own Kirtan Academy and Sound Healing Academy and also leads music workshops in combination with yoga & meditation.

COURSE OVERVIEW

  • Daily chant of the day

  • Vowel modification and vocal technique

  • Toning sessions for the voice Classical Indian Sargams/Alankars, Alap and Ragas (classical piece)

  • Develop Bhakti, devotion through the voice

  • Sanskrit, Gurbani and Sufi chants

  • Chanting with small and large groups

  • Yoga philosophy in Bhakti & history of Kirtan

  • Basic arrangement, harmonium, tanpura and percussion techniques for new students

  • Advanced arrangement, harmonium, tanpura and percussion techniques for advanced students

  • Percussion workshop: Tabla, different drums and kartals (talas) rhythms

  • Proper pronunciation and meanings of mantras

  • Use mantra as a tool to deepen meditation

  • Performance coaching on chosen or suggested songs

  • Create your own chant composition

  • Integrating all aspects of training

Participants are divided into 2 or 3 groups: Beginner, intermediate and advanced depending on their skills.

DAILY SCHEDULE (subject to change)

09:00 – 10:00am: Silence Meditation, Mantra, Pranayama techniques to help open the vocal chord

10:00 – 11:00am: Nada Yoga (Sound Practice)

11:00 – 12:00pm: Instrument & Beat Practice

12:00 – 01:30pm: Lunch and Rest

01:30 – 03:00pm: Lecture Time (Bhakti/Devotion, History, Yoga Philosophy in Bhakti, Q & A and much more)

03:00 – 05:00pm: Instrument Practice and Kirtan Singing with the group

WHAT IS INCLUDED

  • Participants joining the full training will receive a booklet on Kirtan and Bhakti Yoga, and useful chant sheets that spell out the exact fingers and chords to use in granular detail, so you build good habits from our first call.

  • Highly qualified and professional musician teachers.

  • Certificate of participation for students who join the full training of 5 days.

PRICE

  • 5-Day USD 650 (full training)

  • Single-Day USD 150 per day

EARLY BIRD PRICE

  • Early Bird registration and full payment for 5-day training 2 months prior to course commencement: receive 10% discount

  • Early Bird registration and payment for 1-day/single day training 2 days prior to course commencement: receive 10% discount

DEPOSIT

  • Deposit of $200 USD for 5-day training reserves your space and is payable upon registration.

PAYMENT

  • The final payment is due 30 days before the training commencement.

REFUND POLICY

  • The deposit is non-refundable.

  • 100% of the course fee (less deposit) will be refunded 2 months ++ prior to training commencement.

  • 50% of the course fee (less deposit) will be refunded 1 – 2 months prior to training commencement.

  • No refunds will be made 4 weeks prior to training commencement.

CONDITION

  • In case of hindrances to participate in the training the student has always the possibility to look for a replacement.

  • Classes, which have not been visited cannot be recovered at a later time nor will be refunded. Further, there will be no entitlement for a discount or refund in case of absence (due to sickness, job-related and other reasons).

INSURANCE

  • Please be aware that all insurances (incl. health and travel) are the responsibility of the participants.

  • Teachers and assistants shall not be held liable for any damage to, or loss of property or injury to persons.

FURTHER INFORMATION

  • Wear comfortable clothes

  • Bring a notebook, pen and reusable water bottle.

  • Bring your own instrument(s) if you have.

  • Punnu may teach playing mandolin if requested.

  • Private music sessions in person or by Skype/Zoom can be booked with Punnu at any time.

  • Food and accommodation are not included.
