What is Navratri?
Navratri, translating to "Nine Nights," is a cherished festival in Hinduism, dedicated to honoring the divine feminine, primarily the Mother Goddess Durga in her various divine forms including Goddess Kali, Goddess Saraswati, and Goddess Lakshmi123.
This festival spans over nine nights and ten days, celebrated twice a year, during the months of Chaitra (March/April) and Ashvin (September/October), each having its unique significance and celebrations. It's a time of profound spiritual reverence, where devotees engage in prayer, fasting, and various rituals to seek blessings and celebrate the eternal essence of divinity.
History of Navratri
Historically, Navratri symbolises the triumph of good over evil, commemorating the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon king Mahishasura. This battle between the Goddess and the demon king is deeply embedded in Hindu mythology and holds profound historical and spiritual significance. Navratri's spiritual ambiance provides a platform for devotees to delve into self-reflection, purification, and a deeper understanding of the universal energies. The diverse rituals and practices during Navratri are believed to bestow spiritual, mental, and physical benefits, aligning individuals with the higher energies of the cosmos.
